Abstract

2-(3- indolyl) - 4,5 di phynyl imidazole(IDPI), was used as a complexing agent in cloud point
extraction for the first time and applied for selective pre-concentration of trace amounts of
Aluminium. The method is based on the extraction of Aluminium at pH 3.5 by using nonionic surfactant T-X114 and 2-(3- indolyl) - 4,5 di phenyl imidazole.(IDPI) as a chelating
agent. The adopted concentrations for IDPI, Triton X-114 and HNO3, bath temperature,
centrifuge rate and time were optimized. Linearity for Al was obeyed in the range of Al3+
ion 0.2-20.0 ng mL-1. The Detection Limit (n=10) 0.013(µg.mL-1) for Aluminium ion, and
along with enrichment factor of 37 for Aluminium ion, RSD % (n=5) 1.3(µg.mL-1) for
Aluminium ion was achieved. The high efficiency of cloud point extraction to carry out the
determination of analytes in complex matrices was demonstrated. The proposed method
was successfully applied to the ultra-trace determination of aluminium in real samples.
