Abstract

Isoniazide is considered to be one of the most important antibiotics for TB bacteria
because of its high efficacy, relatively low toxicity and its low price. 1 The drug was discovered by
chance when the researcher Chorine proved in 1945 that nicotine amyotene (nicotinamide) has
the ability to stop the effectiveness of tuberculosis bacilli. The discovery was not given importance
until 1948 when Mckenzie and his group observed the same effect. A study was conducted on the
effect of isonicotinic acid similar to nicotine ammide. It was noted that most pyridine derivatives
have almost the same ability to stop the effectiveness of tuberculosis bacilli. In 1952, Fox
discovered the isoniazid while trying to collect the active substances used to treat tuberculosis.23
